I am very pleased to announce that I designed the new Conspirator logo for some of my favorite musicians, Marc Brownstein and Aaron Magner from the Disco Biscuits. Marc mentioned the project in a recent interview:
“And for me, I have a whole host of things going on in my life musically that are both Biscuits related and non Biscuits related and the social media for me, I find that it’s really nice to keep the relationship strong with the fans, and not only for that reason, I just like being open about my life with the fans. I like them knowing what’s going on in my day to day life, I enjoy that they have input in what we play, I enjoy that they have input in where we play or when we play. I get a lot of good ideas out of the fans.
Let me give you an example without digressing too much. I was getting some Conspirator logos recently from some art companies, merchandising companies, and I don’t know, I think I got twenty to twenty-five different Conspirator logos sent to me from professional companies and nothing was clicking, I just wasn’t vibing off of it and my first thought, I emailed Aron (Magner) and Chris (Michetti,) and my first thought was something tells me our fans can do better than this. I’ve got 11,000 facebook fans, you know we have 45,000 for the Biscuits and I have 11,000, and the Biscuits page is a little bit more of a corporate page and doesn’t do as well as some of the other pages that are out there because each of the members of the band has their own pages and the fans know that if you actually want to talk to the band members you can just go talk to them directly. So I’ve got about 11, 000 fans on my page, with all different skill sets in there, you know there’s lawyers, there’s doctors, there’s accountants, there’s artists, there’s musicians, there’s everything in there. You know, you take 11,000 people and you’re going to have everything, there’s students, there’s tour kids, there’s just a little bit of everything.
So I went on to my facebook page and I wrote…exactly what I just said…”hey I’ve gotten 20 different submissions for Conspirator logos, I’m not feeling any of them, my first thought was that the fans can do better than this and in the next two weeks if you make a submission, the winner will get $250.” And in the next two weeks I got like 50 more submissions and low and behold, one of them was incredible. A lot of them were great…a lot of them wereway better than anything we had gotten. Some of them looked like they could be great tattoos, some of them looked like they could be great posters or paintings…one was actually a painting, this girl named Gwen who does incredible paintings did a Conspirator painting and it’s so cool and in the end this guy Justin Wood who did the installations at Camp last year…he submitted something that was the clear winner. It was just the clear winner and you know, right now it’s being printed up as t-shirts and hats…Grassroots California is doing a Conspirator hat right now. And we have t-shirts and girl t-shirts and sweatshirts coming and we’ve never had Conspirator merch before because we’ve never had a Conspirator logo before because I never got something that screamed sellable to me.”
